Hi all,
Following my engine rebuild I have a soft tappet that refuses to pump up. It was rebuilt along with the others, and filled with oil etc, but for whatever reason it won't pump up in the van - you can hear the classic ticking/tapping noise, and when you try and screw in the adjuster you can see it is compressing the tappet and not the valve spring like it should. Its on number 2 inlet valve.
So it needs replacing which is a pain (to be fair I was warned this may happen!) but not too bad as will go down the telescopic tube route.
However, I am currently getting some off-idle popping through the throat of the carb on that cylinder (twin HPMX IDF knock-off's) - is this likely to be related to the drained tappet do people think? Be nice if it was, but wonder if its just a coincidence. If the consensus is that its just coincidence I'll start looking at air leaks / spark leads etc whilst I wait for the tappet and tube to arrive.
Cheers,
Alex

Re: Hydraulic Tappet gone soft - off idle carb popping?
related.
as valve timing has been altered.
The inlet is opening too late and closing too early..causing a weak mixture
IMO

Cheers Kev,
Been reading Ratwell again this morning, had reached a similar conclusion, but good to have a second opinion.
Will start there and hope it goes away!
