DG to Agg which diesel engine bars

Post by waltraud »

Im collecting parts to convert my 83 dg to gti. After reading through posts it looks like there are different types of diesel engine bars- different lengths or fitments? ? I have bars, alloy mounts, bellhousing and input shaft so far.
How to tell which engine bars I have and if they will fit with agg engine and 4 speed gbox code DT. Thanks.

Early ones bolt to valance but have a rubber mount between the plates and arm.

Late ones are solid with no rubber bush/mount.

Which ones have you got? :ok

Have checked, all solid. Does this mean the engine could not mate to 4 speed ptrl gbox code DT as it is?

Sounds like I need to swap for some early bars- which for some reason seem cheaper ? Do you know if anything else likely to be early/late issue and if I can keep the gearbox mount as it is in place? Cheers

Never used early bars, always stayed away from them as later ones are a lot more common and easier to blast/paint and changing bushes over is just one more hassle. I think I read somewhere recently they place the engine differently to late ones. Don't know if this is true though :?

Looms? Sick of the site of them now

Just done two in the last month or so.

Never made a pin board up to do them as with Dokas I always put them in the void between load bed and where the engine hatch would be on a van, and then on vans everyone wants the relay box in a different place

More than happy to take pics/send measurements or if you post me your loom will happily strip it down and label it for you to finish so you can enjoy my misery. People get scared with it, but if you can do the spannering, you can do the wiring. Just make sure you use the factory crimps/heat shrink and not halfords specials that 'someone' made me use as they were too tight to spend £20 on a proper finish.

Its really not that difficult though. Get Garyd s fab file.

Sit with radio on and 20 fags and 3l of full fat coke and away you go.

PM me if you need owt chap. :ok

I thought the bar types were the other way round ???. I have two sets of solid ones here, one set i removed myself from an early 82/83 van and the 90 caravelle i just sold had a rubber bushed set. Would this have not been an upgrade to try and stop vibration ?.
Anyhow my agg bolted very easily in on solid bars and the original abd gearbox with 4sp mount. Unfortunately the gearbox copped a strop and was replaced with a dk Aircooled box and i had to lengthen the mount and mod the linkage. Apparently rjes do a modded mount for when fitting a subaru to compensate for re-positioning backwards.

Sorry to but in on your convo but you say you've done an agg into your bus. I'm also doing the same conversion but I've just had my donor vehicle nicked, and I'm after an early inlet manifold as apparently that's what's needed to save butchering the body work. All I'm asking is do you know the manifold part number as I'm being told "yes mate this will fit trust me" by nearly every second parts dealer . Cheers Orbit.

AFAIK all AGG manifolds were the same, never seen anything but one type fitted.

On iPad so copy and paste is pants for links but paste in

271472027673

To ebay search bar, this shape manifold Is an AGG one. But.......

You HAVE to have an AGG head to fit it to, it won't work on a PB head due to injectors/ports. So if you buy a separate donor engine make sure its the right one :ok
