Eberspacher problem, guess who I'm looking for?

I have rechecked and it is only pin 1 of the plugs that is live, my apologies, however it still doesn't concur with what you said about it being live only on connection 8? I must have had the other plug in yesterday. Checking the fuel pump with the unit switched on there is 12.81 volts to the pump but no clicking, can I assume I have a duff pump which is causing my non start? The fuel filter before the pump was full of crap so I've changed it but I assume too little too late?

There should be a pulsed 12v output to the pump not steady - you will need an analogue voltmeter to see it most probably though. (So much better for looking for pulses)
Have you checked the filter in the pump itself?

Didn't realise it could be disassembled, looks vintage but I will take a look tomorrow, got a new born so time is limited as to what I can spend out on the drive

Also I thought the fan would still work without the heat, as it did before?

It will work on its own if you have a ventilation position.
The inlet side (large alloy nut and pipe) has a filter inside.

Are you following the troubleshooting from the manual?

Yes, going by the manual it's faulty fuse (checked) or blower motor. I guess that's that, I need to get it out and strip it?

Do you mean that you have checked the motor fuse in the ecu?
The fan will not start if other components fail which will prevent the ecu proceeding. So flame detector resistance is checked, glow plug is checked, fuel pump is checked. If any of these components are open circuit/short circuit/high resistance it will not begin to start.

Yes I have checked the motor fuse, it isn't blown, I've sort of come to the end of my abilities now I think.

I'm about ready to admit defeat now. Have you any recommendations either petrol or gas that would fit in it's place? We mentioned the webasto but is there any others a little/lot cheaper?

Your best way forward is to strip it down - you have nothing to lose. The bearings may just be dry but I would expect the fuse to blow if it is tight as it would draw more juice.
If you strip it down there is a circuit board in the heater with connections that could well be dodgy - loose spade terminals or dry solder joints.

OK, so I haven't given up on the Eberspacher yet, spent the evening underneath and moved the fan by hand, seemed quite free then stuck, some WD40 in there and switched it on, span up fine, then slowed down and stopped again, spent the rest of the evening removing the whole unit defo needs a new bearing and perhaps some dry joints in there too.

On the flip side, I found a spanner and a lightbulb in the outlet pipe?!?

Going by that there may well be kids toys/ paper/general detritus inside the heater then!

Looking inside through the outlet there was a build up of crud in and around, once I get it apart tomorrow I'll throw 12v straight on the motor and see what we get.

There is cables that runs through the pipe, those that I unplugged from the control unit came through fine but one wouldn't, do I assume that it to the switch/thermostat?

I'm really grateful for all your guidance, I'd have given up ages ago otherwise, you have the patience of a saint as I'm sure you must be sat there thinking I'm a right bellend
