Temperature gauge not moving out of white area

HI ladies and gents hope you can advise.

Alls been running well since i had the replacement engine fitted in December. Haven't been out in the van for a few weeks and took it for a good drive yesterday.

I soon noticed the temperature gauge on the dash wasn't moving when normally it would sit a third of the way across once warm. It did move slightly but very slowly within the white area but that's it.

Ran it again today and the same.

Never had a problem with the gauge in the 15 years i've had the van so not an area I've had experience of.

Andy advice gratefully received and is this the temperature gauge in the centre of the photo covered by a rubber case please.

yes that's the temp sender in the thermostat housing.

Mabe an idea to start by replacing that sensor with one from brickworks if it's not been touched in 15 years! it will leak a bit but nothing to worry about if your quick.

I certainly will repace the sensor its almost certainly the original. I assume this is the one.

Just had a look at the dash end and where the gauge is there's what looks like a connector with a transistor on it and the screw was hanging out and at some stage must have come loose as it was a self tapper rather than a nut and bolt as per the others in the same section. I replaced the screw but the gauge still only goes into the white.

The whole dash needs really replacing as its in a bad state of condition think they are only available 2nd hand though.

Top right screw is where the connector to the gauge was hanging loose.

Might be just the thermostat stuck open, I had same issue would hardly show warm on the gauge replaced the stat and all was fine

Not sure to be honest, I just got mine from my local motor factor about a tenner

I left it running tonight for ages the fan doesn't kick in as it should so guessing it must be a faulty temperature sensor.

Woke up to a small pool of water under the sender and the sender is wet so guess the seal has failed.

Have purchased a replacement and new seal just wondered if its a case of pulling the old one out?

FYI - the temperature sensor for the radiator fan is not the same sensor as the one that drives the temp gauge in your gauge cluster. The temp sensor for the radiator fan is in the radiator!
So, the two problems are most likely not related ........ unless its just a case that your coolant isn't getting up to temp but I would have assumed that if you left the engine running for long enough with no airflow over the radiator (i.e. van is stationary) that it would eventually get hot.
