jx engine rebuild torque settings

Post by pinpointer01 »

Hi all,

I know its a bit cheeky asking for help with my first post, but I really need help to locate a torque settings list to complete the rebuild of my jx 1.6td I,ve just put new ring and shells in but no matter where I search I can not find a full rebuild info document, any help would be greatfully accepted. I will introduce my self properly this weekend with photos if I can upload them.

Thanks in advance, Dave R

Hello mate, heres a link to the volkswagen vanagon gently manual, the JX is not covered, however the CS diesel engine is covered and i'm sure the torque settings are the same for both engines, i'm sure someone will be long to confirm that. Heres the link to the workshop manual in pdf format.

Just kampers do a manual for the JX but theres typo mistakes in it, god bless em. :D

Dave

I've sent you a PM with a link to download a PDF of the VW workshop manual for the CS, JX and KY diesels as fitted to the T25.

Hi Guys,

A very large thank you for all your help, I now have the jx rebuilt with new secondhand head, new shells and rings, new oil pump and oil cooler, re sealed pump and injectors, and it runs great,, however I,m experiencing a problem on start up, when cold starting there's quite a lot of whitish/gray smoke, this stops after a few miles, then when left for a few minutes and started again the smoke,s back, any body got any suggestions on where I need to look to resolve this issue.

Thanks again for your help with the rebuild.

Cheers Dave R.

Did you measure the oil fill at 4.5L or are you using the dipstick marks? I find mine smokes rather a lot at start up if I fill to the max mark, but its OK if I keep to the min. I've been meaning to do an oil change & measure exactly how high 4.5L comes up to on the dipstick, but the oil filter has only just arrived after a 10 day wait from ECP. Also I get problems if I park on a slope with the LH lower than RH. I think these problems stem from the low position of the turbo oil drain in relation to sump oil level.

Yeah I did just follow the dip stick, and 1/2 a litre for the filter when it got to the full point, will drop some out 2mora and see, could I have done any damage, I,be kept it under 55 since the engine was fitted?

Doubt very much if any damage caused, except maybe to the health of anyone behind your smoky van
I just did the oil & filter change & measured exactly 4.5L of oil going in. The dipstick reads bang on the minimum line so the suspicions about it being overfull on the max line are correct. I think there was about a litre too much oil in when filled to the max level.

Cheers fellas,

Not half as smokie now, :ok you live and learn, still having a bit of reluctance starting, when ever I stop or starting from cold I have to give it pedal to get it going, it was OK before the rebuild, just pull the cold start wait for the heater plugs to do their bit, and away she went, now it will just turn over with no intention of starting until I give it pedal? Then when running it sound and pulls great.

Thanks for all your input guys,

Dave R
