Yep. He is keeping the old shroud for me so I can pass it on to somebody who needs one. The bonus is I now have a fan that has two speeds for the first time, so it should be able to deal with all hot conditions.

So, we were sat in the queue waiting to get into Bustypes on Friday. Then this mysterious barely audible purr started. My new fan was doing its job and then it gently switched itself on and off a couple more times. I haven't been so excited about fitting something new for a long while, but this upgrade is cool in every sense of the word. Thinks - I must get a life before I getunder!

I'm not sure that I would class it as an 'upgrade' as an original fan in good fettle works perfectly well.

Trust me after that original ship's propeller this is a cool (sic) upgrade. Draws half the power and is almost silent!

I'm glad it's working out for you, I suppose the real test of it will come when you have a sustained load on the engine. (Like a slow steep climb) You'll then see if the fan is man enough to keep up with the heat being dumped into it, especially as without the shroud the fan only covers a small section of the rad.
Will be good if it does, as it will give people other options.

Of course it's an upgrade. It's modern technology v 30 year old technology. Check out Kenlowe's website and you will see what I mean.

I agree ^^^^^ and the original shroud and fan mounting is also angled down to give the best exit route for the warm air.

I think we may have missed the point here.......The benefits of a Kenlowe (electric) Fan setup were well known and advertised, back in the 70's & 80's, when they were compared to older 'continuous or thermo viscous coupling' driven fans and NOT vehicles that were already using (modern at that time) thermo switch controlled ELECTRIC fans.
Also....it seems to be implied that there have been radical advances in electric fan (motors and fan blade) design, when there hasn't!
Whilst there may have been some minor improvements 'mainly in size & compactness' the function and day to day operation remain much the same.
Kenlowe's are a fantastic choice and a definite upgrade, if you happen to own an older vehicle with a mechanical fan, otherwise, there is little to gain over a factory fitted electric fan that is in good working order.

B'lieve it or not, the newest car on my fleet - '96 Shogun v6 - has a viscous engine-driven fan. Bless it. I can sort of see the benefits of not having an electric fan in a 4x4 when it comes to water getting everywhere, but it's not like the damn thing doesn't have forty-seven tons of electronics on everything else...
