6 forward gears no reverse

doing some work on the van and renewed the gear linkage bush near the fuel tank, marked the linkage well so as to put it back right and checked gate after the work to ensure i could select all 5 forward and reverse gear

fast forward a couple of weeks and the fuel tank is now back in, fired van up and all 6 gears are forward gears????????

can select them all cleanly but when it goes into reverse its a forward gear, they were fine before i touched it



obviously i have done something wrong but most threads i find are about losing a gear shift after work has been done not keeping all 6 but losing any reverse gear


so what have i done?

Definately not going far enough across then. Four of those gears are the same two - if you see what I mean.

yep, tank back out again (85L jobby)

no rush its bank holiday

Also, if you removed it, note the way the bracket on gearbox fits too. Get it the wrong side of the flange and that'll cause probs. We have a very concise 5-speed gearshift breakdown in the WIKI now so I presume you're looking at that. It should help you pinpoint whats going on. Also worth working the gears by hand at the box with linkage connected as well as disconnected (need two people to do this) then you'll get a feel where reverse is (or should be) and whats restricting the movement.

only front and centre split, didnt touch rear so problem has to be with centre

maybe my marking was spot on but new bush has taken out all the slack

took tank out and my marking is spot on, mm perfect, so took box end off and thats worn

ordered my bits and left it until next week
