westfalia gas tank guage not working

Post by kingpin »

got an 89 club joker and the under floor gas tank guage is reading empty even when refilled with gas. took the guage unit off the the tank & the domed aluminuim unit fits in a pressed hollow on the side of the tank with no connection to the inside of the tank, so I'm not even sure what principal it even works on! Although I can live with no guage, it is handy to know.....before you run out. Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated. thanks.

The gauge works by magnet, if you were to remove the brass fitting you will see a set up similar to a ball valve in a toilet cistern. You will find that the 'ball' has filled with liquid gas and no longer rises with the gas level
You'll see some pics of it on this thread of mine

I did see some on my available parts list and was going to grab one for my own van as I have now lost 2  I think how we use ours Tom its best to do away with the drain tap and blank it off and just unscrew the big drain cap. Have you noticed that the Syncro waist water tank is shallower than the 2wd one?
