Laminate flooring - how thick?

One of the many jobs I have in mind for my van when I get it back is a spruce up of the interior. It currently has checked vinyl tiles, not sure what's underneath, presuming chipboard, but would like a wooden (looking) floor of some some description.

I was in B & Q today and was browsing the laminate flooring - one thing that struck me was how heavy a pack of 12mm thick laminate flooring is, and ideally I want to remove weight from the van rather than add more!

So anyway, what thickness/ type of laminate flooring are people typically using?

Why don't you use vinyl flooring that looks like wood flooring

Don't forget it could get quite wet and laminate does have a habit of swelling and buckling when they get wet...I used heavy duty not slip vinyl on a 9mm marine ply backing board..

We've been looking at flooring for the house, and have seriously considered this stuff. It's _VERY_ convincing. Or flagstone effect. Or quarry tile effect. It'd look great in the van, and be MUCH more practical than real laminate.

I bought the cheapest that they had in OBI (German B&Q), it's 8 mm thick. It's been down for a couple of years and still looks okay.

1 pack does the job.

I did ours in self adhesive vinyl wood effect tiles from B&Q. They are 30.5 cm square and only 1.2mm thick but seem very durable. They stuck very well to the ply floor once I had cleaned it and sprayed a light coat of (cheap B&Q) polyurethane varnish on it to "seal" it so the glue sticks better. There are "how to's" on Youtube as to the best way to measure and cut the tiles (they cut easily) by using the "overlap" method. I am very glad I checked that out as it made the job one heck of a lot easier and less prone to error than I thought it would be.

Altro floor as used on buses is extremely hard wearing...that's what I'm using...there's a guy who goes to most shows selling lumps of the stuff in many shades..non slip...indestructible...cheap..sound good?

I've just fitted this 8mm splash proof laminate from B and Q in the van and everyone says it looks fantastic. Tiles and vinyl look good at first but in reality they don't last long and scuff easily.

+1 for wood effect vinyl - i have some in my van and it feels nice underfoot and is super easy to wipe clean/hoover out, especially after being down the beach - they do it in two thickness sizes (i got that thicker size) , which i can check for you as i can't remember what they are at the mo! So in a nutshell, as I currently have no solid floor, as I only have sticky back foam insulation and then had some lino on top, I need to get a solid floor for any kind of laminate or vinyl tiles to bond too.

then I'm looking for water resistant/bathroom/kitchen appropriate vinyl tiles

it was mentioned to me in the local DIY place, that most interior tiles have a temperature range and contract and expand, etc

In a bus the temperature can range considerably, so.... any experiences in this?
