Audi RS4 / s-Line alloys

Post by Flyingchunk »

Hi all

I've loved these wheels from afar for ages. Just seen them on on our the members on here's T25 pick up.

Vw Golf Bora, Seat Leon, Audi A3/A4 18" rs4 replicas 5x100 5x112 good tyres

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231198378311" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Question is... How do I get them to fit?

Cheers

The centre bore may need enlarging from 57.1mm to 66mm.
Longer rear studs.
Longer front bolts(or stud conversion)
Spacers...the thickness of the spacers depends on the actual offset though as the seller isn't sure, but if they are ET45 you'll need 15mm spacers to bring the offset down to ET30.

Make sure they're load rated to at least 650kgs each as well....it should be stamped into the back of the wheel.

Great stuff. Sorry I was lazy. Been studying the wiki and think I get it!!

One last question...

I got a new tyre on the front, and when I put the wheel back on forgot the refit the grease cap, so now the centre is exposed fully. I'm running old golf chrome pepper pot style alloys and the centre cap is chrome to match.

The mrs is going away in it tomorrow.

So...should I get up and take the wheel off and refit the grease cap before I head off to work, or will it be ok for the week?

It's out of interest, and I'm being a bit lazy. I do also have job to go to!

If it's going to ruin something if also like to know.

Cheers :ok

The grease cap is called just that for a reason....it should be fitted with grease inside it to keep the wheel bearing lubricated.

If it's not the there then dirt can get in,grease can get out and then the bearing will eventually run dry or get contaminated with dirt...it could then fail with a risk of losing the wheel.....best put the alarm clock on a bit earlier!

If it's the nearside grease cap the speedo won't work either as it's secured into the end of the cap....

Oh...Golf pepperpot style alloys? :?

I had a feeling you were going to say that!

Got up and put it on. Looking at it again, it looks not more like a decorative cap, than functional.

There is what looks like a cap not here already with a small bit protruding from the middle that can be pushed in. The speedo was also working fine.

Anyway, better safe than sorry.

As for the alloys (my mistake, more chrome rims), I'm sure my mate had them on his golf.

Wheel centre cap then not the grease cap.

The cap you mentioned with "a small bit protruding from the middle that can be pushed in" is the actual grease cap and the bit you can push in is the end of the speedo cable.
There should be a circlip around the end of the cable to secure it to the centre cap.
The fact you say you can push it in suggests there's no circlip?

As for the alloys...only Golfs after 2003/4 have 5X112PCD wheels and there's no way whatsoever your wheels would fit.

Wow, thanks

Best I get a circlip!

My mistake then. Wonder what these wheels are?

One last question (promise), if I purchase these wheels can I "go lower"?

Is it a case of suck it and see? I only ask as you seem to be an oracle in these matters.

Van sits pretty high and at the moment it's a bit frightening in the wet going around some corners.

Would look better as well.

A piece of wire twisted around the end of the speedo cable will do if you haven't got a circlip...you'll see the groove where it's supposed to go.

Yes you can go lower when these alloys are used but don't go any lower than 60mm with it being a camper and buy good quality lowering springs and shocks from Brickwerks....NOT cheap red springs and yellow shocks off ebay or elsewhere.

Before any of that happens though you need to find out the exact details of the alloys BEFORE buying them.

To be honest the though there's plenty of other alloys out there that are easier and cheaper to fit than those...but it's your choice at the end of the day.

Ok. This is all good news!

I'll get ordering my Bruce Forsyth sticker.

Thanks so much for the help.

I may research cheaper and easier, however it'll take a lot to sway me from these babies!

As Steve says, used to have them on my pick up, was lowered -60mm rear, -70mm fronts on gas shocks, can't say I enjoyed the ride, looked good, but drove like it was on tracks, too wide a tyre, & not enough side wall for my liking, as Steve says, they need the centre boring out, then the centre cap doesn't clip on, also, you have to reduce the depth of the grease caps by 5mm I think it was, to be able to get the centre caps to refit flush, plus the spacers & longer studs & front stud conversion, as said, look good, but easier wheels to fit :ok
