Gearbox help?

Post by sciroccotune »

Hi all, hope you are all well.

I have managed to get a new (well old but new to me) gearbox with a semi decent set of ratios.

It's an ABD and I'm assured that it's good apart from a tiny whine in 2nd.

Anyway I took the bell housing off as I need to swap it for me diesel one anyway and all looks ok inside, no damaged teeth etc.

However when I look into the hole in the diff there seem to be like a floating collar that has a bit of up and down movement, any one know what this is or if it should be like that?

I don't have my other box off the van yet so can't compare.

I may also be looking for gearbox refurbish advice if I decide to go that far

Cheers

diff is normal that's the spacer between the internal pinions it can clack about a bit against the shaft holding the diff internals together
read Bentley manual for gearbox stuff
