Thank you for your generous interpretation of what I wrote All I meant was that when I was looking for a feed for my voltmeter some of the places I poked my multimeter probe into didn't show the same as the reading at the battery. Ghost's point is useful though - provided you can find a feed that represents battery voltage, the meter ought to measure that regardless of the thickness of that wire.

wired mine into a box with a lead and a ciggy lighter plug on the end for now, too busy to do it permanently at the moment, dont really want to cut a panel either so not decided where to put it.

Ha, that's exactly what I have done to mine ! I have a 2 way (+usb)) socket connected directly to my leisure battery so I use that. Could also of course plug it into the main ciggy plug, but never felt the need to monitor that.
