My van failed its MOT because there is no handbrake light, so get it home and have a look and theres no wiring or plug on the back! and I cant think that ive ever seen it work! but its passed MOTs before.
What does this plug look like? as the switch for the headlights are belw I traced the wiring from there and found some "spare" wires that look like official VW merchandise. don't supoose these are my wires I need?
Any thoughts or advice on what to do would really help me, I hate wiring!!
1982 Panel Van, 2.2 scoob, Porsche 996 brakes, Air ride probably never coming soon!
My van is an air-cooled 1982 and it didn't have a hand-brake light as standard. The slot in the dash just had a plastic blank fitted in it. Have you got a hand-brake switch on the lever, I'm pretty sure my van hasn't. Maybe your van had a "new" dash fitted to go with the scooby?
2ltr Aircooled CU with twin Solex's & originally a 009 dizzie, but now back to standard.
I thought you could not fail the mot unless the tester comes up with a valid reason for rejection as listed in the mot testers manual.
Just had a quick look and I can't see a faulty handbrake light listed as a reason for rejection. If it was a fluid level warning that would be included if faulty but do any T25s have such a lamp.
As said earlier best bet probably to remove the lamp module from the dash, blank it with a bit of tape and tell him your van never fitted with one. If he asks why it had the lamp module just blag that it was a replacement second hand dash unit. If you have no wiring or switch in place then it still is a mystery why you have the lamps.
If it is just a plain lid then you have no brake fluid warning system so tell him the lamp is a spare handbrake one you have not connected up as it is not needed for MOT.
