I need a hug, and possibly a new engine

Post by col.decker »

I had the buzzer of doom this morning. 'Oh no' I thought, 'the oil pressure switch must be faulty, it won't be the engine'. But I pulled over anyway.

Engine cut out as soon as I put it into neutral, and then wouldn't restart. Actually it wouldn't even turn over on the starter and it smelt really bad and was very hot. :(
So I waited for the AA

30 mins later I tried to start it again and it fired and ran. Hooray!! But man it sounded rough, clattering and banging like it was full of spanners, but I managed to move it safer place off the road. Also as I drove it the clutch and gearbox felt really bad all of a sudden too, big knocks thru the clutch pedal.

I'm guessing the oil pump has done a knacker, but a trip to the garage is needed to find out what other damage had been done. Anyone in the west mids got a spare DG engine?

And a hug?

Yaaaaay!! Just had a call from the Garage and it seems that our engine isn't economically viable to repair, and that we should get a new one.

Lucky in that I've found recon engines that will part x for mine.

Unlucky that they will cost £1100 plus fitting.

Unless I just get one from eBay / scrap yard, but I don't won't to do that cos I need (some) reliability

Surely this is what you need? Seems like a good deal to me - and maybe the chap will do you a deal with a part ex of your knackered engine?

Doh missed that post. In the mean time I'm sorted now by 'VWMagicBus' on eBay. £650 with all ancillaries and ready to drop in.

If you need one they've got a couple more, plus lots of other T25 stuff.

And I get to keep my old engine for spares / breaking / fixing as a project.
