Tartin up badges

Got me rear badges off but can't think of best way to paint the letters silver. Tried masking it all and cutting out letters with scalpel but not good. I don't think hand painting would do the job either. Any ideas? Or anyone else attempted it?



Ps also the Devon badge on the rear. Sorry no pic, but can you still get these?

I have thought about this before but never done it, what about rollering it with a lino paint or ink roller

Hi,

I have seen a guy selling the camping ones on flee b but a tad expensive at 25 squid. Perhaps you could spray them silver first and once dry fill in the black with an artist brush and wipe any over spill off the silver letters. Or cover them in grease wipe the letters with thinners then spray silver. Or maybe ignore the last two ideas and plastercine around the letters, remove with a craft knife, wipe letters with thinners (greasy plastercine) then spray. Or maybe grease badges first, cover in plaster, sand down to the letters and spray, bend the badges a little and hopefully the plaster will come out.

(these ideas are theoretical and the author will not be responsible for any damage or injury sustained during the renovation of these badges)

Another random idea but what about applying a layer of paint to a non absorbent surface so there's a thin but wet layer and just pressing badges face down into it?

Should give a decent covering and not look too messy (decent lines) as long as the paint layer isn't too thick.

Very good ideas! Tried to photocopy the badges today and then cut out. But think the paint will get behind it. Mate said maybe a silver paint pen which I might try.

years ago I remember a bloke I worked with used to spray the whole badge silver and then black over the top , get a bit of g3 or similar cutting paste on a cloth and rub it over the raised letters , not too hard and the black came off leaving the letters silver

Spray them all silver let them dry then get some clear fablon or equivalent and stick it on the badges. Make sure its pressed firm on the flat face of the letters and the get yourself a sharp blade and carefully cut round each letter. Now spray the black. Peel off fablon, Job done.

Its a great sight but spoilt by( mocking), I have asked questions and while the advice is 1st class and very gratefully received some feel the need to almost ridicule or it seems that way just because the OP is asking a question they don't understand...the whole point of the forum is to get answers and help/advice, sometimes the answers are given in a way that is not always clear unless you actually understand the bigger picture...

I use other forums and do find 8090 a bit testosterone filled at times...

Anyways its not a 3rd world problem just though id air my opinion.

I got a small brush, painted with white acrylic, then silver. Took a bit of time, but looks ok, (looks better from a few feet away)

I like. Got some white pens at work so will start with that. Suppose silver will come through better then. Cheers for that

I painted mine with the silver paint out of an Airfix kit three years ago. They still look ok. I did the front badge at the same time with some red paint out of the same kit.

Started with the paint pens.

Did a coat of white as advised then gold

Not too smooth but could wet and dry at a later date. Another coat of gold to go on later but I think they look a lot better.
