Hi everyone, wondering if anyone can help ?? What kind of seam sealer do you use after you have raked out all the old rotten stuff got it back to bare metal and am now stuck what do now

go to any car spares shop they sell a good quality seam sealer,if its underneath you could always underseal it as well.

What
there is the seam sealer that is brushed onto joins etc (not external stuff) and there is the other sort that is applied with a gun into the seam and then immediately wiped back out, this is done after all prepping and undercoating etc and all that then goes on top of it is top coat,you dont use it for any other purpose

b**ger you asked me didnt you. the sort for the seams we get in a plain tube !! but i will get the details for you, comes in grey and white.
as for the brush on that i use on joins etc then there are several bur some string like mozzarella on a bad day. and others react when overpainted and pickle but at the mo im using U-pol grey stripe from halfwits

I've actually just started cleaning out my seams with a drill and wire brush and have applied a nice did if vactan after having brushed out as much as humanly possible and taken it back to metal (part of me thought maybe I'd taken too much back but better too much than too little.

Anyway, I've been toying with the idea if 'deseaming' my van by filling them in and smoothing them back. What's the general opinion about this? Good idea? Bad idea? I'm not ooking to do the van up to be sold but have decided to hold off I. any welding to make sure over the next year or so we get on before I through too much money at it. Anyway, any opinions are greatly received.

I think if you fill the seams with body filler they'll crack as the body flexes

Just out of interest, has anybody had any success welding over the seams (and then grinding them flat, obviously)?

I would guess the amount of heat required would deform the panel, unless it was laboriously cooled constantly
Maybe brazing would be kinder .
