Bleeder Valve Operation

Post by MidLifeCrisis »

While I'm asking silly questions .....

How does the bleeder valve on the hose joiner at the back of the engine-bay work? ..this guy...
Image

a) I assume that it is clockwise to 'close' the bleed valve; anticlcokwise to 'open' the bleed valve?
b) What does opening the bleed valve do?
c) Does it connect the top hose joint to the small diameter pipe? If so - why - what is the purpose?

Cheers

You open it as you would undo a bolt

I think it's to help the engine warm quicker when bleeding

It links the feed and return so I'd assume it bypasses the stat. It doesn't bleed air per say as that is done at the rad

OK - so it doesn't link the top large pipe to the small pipe but instead it links the top big pipe to the lower big pipe? So what role does the little pipe play in this ??

Still confused?
