Lights on passenger side problems
Rear side light and rear indicator light and the front side light (all on passenger side) aren't working. There is no power getting to them. I have cleaned up the main earths by the fuse box and the earth at the back behind the air filter. Don't know where to go next. The rear light cables appear to go into the black box of death top left engine bay which is a mass of cables hanging out of a plastic box. There are a few other possible electrical problems but they may not be connected eg heater blower keeps blowing fuse, and a persistent clicking every time I start up which continues after the engine is switched off. I mention these only in case they may possibly be connected. Strange that the light problem is only on the passenger side and that other lights - headlight and brake light work ok. Does anyone have a bright idea or do I just have to follow the cables...

Re: Lights on passenger side problems
I got to the bottom of the rear light. It was the earth behind the air filter that needed a good clean. I have really cleaned the main earths by the fuse box but I still havent had any luck on the front light. Is there an earth for the front lights knocking about somewhere that I can't see. I really would appreciate someone telling me if they know!!

Unfortunately the earths for the front lights are at the crowns by the fuse box - on later vans at any rate. Might be different if you have an old style fusebox with the bullet style fuses.killerme wrote:I got to the bottom of the rear light. It was the earth behind the air filter that needed a good clean. thanks 1664. Thats a pain. I could try cleaning them again but I suppose the best bet after this is to track the wires back and look for problems? cheers m8

Check the lamp holder. Check there is 12v getting there and if so run a temporary earth there to see if that cures it.

Re: Lights on passenger side problems
how embarrasing! I had to leave this problem aside for a while because of work but I tackled it again today only to find the problem fairly quickly. Obviously, in hindsight, cleaning the rear earth HAD done the job required but prior to that I had been testing various possibilities and had taken out the first of the two fuses which covered the left hand sidelights BUT hadn't put it back. A fresh start identified the problem pretty quickly. Dunce's hat for me!
