Are you talking about the throttle body or the MAF?

WHS^

Is it a Mk2 PB or Mk3 AAG (or anything else come to think of it!)

Depending on what it is it will have simple micorswitch or a TPS (throttle position sensor) either way, as TAD has said, it all needs to be plugged in regardless.

Pull of the inlet tract and preferably take the throttle body off (4 x 5mm hex heads) and give the throttle body a really good clean with a can of carb cleaner. Mk3s are particularly dont like dirty throttle bodies.

Check all hoses are on the throttle body ok and inlet tract.

check resistance on blue coolant temp sensor , should be 5 Ohms when cold. use a genuine one if yours is poorly, GSF/aftermarket ones are known cack.

Take off ISV and give it a realy good clean (same can of carb cleaner you bought earlier  )

When you have the multimeter out check continuity of coolant temp sensor wiring, cold start circuit, ISV , TB microswitches.

check all vac hoses.

The above will take you 30 mins and cost you nothing except time and £4 for cleaner. Dont go spending money just yet replacing stuff.

They are simple engine and simple/quick/cheap to fix fortunately:ok

gti 8v engine choke issues

Post by sciroccotune »

Does it have lost of braided steel pipes to the injectors? If so it could be a dx or or their 8v Kjet engine. These have a fairly delicate auxiliary air valve set up and need to be air leak free to work well at start up.

If it's a pb code with later digital injection the temp sensors have been known to give issues or dead isv valve

Let us know an engine code or see a picture and we can help more

gti 8v engine choke issues

If it has braided pipes it's a Kjet as Elvis says. There is no choke as such. Of the top of my head the warm up process involves a aux air valve which is a gray plastic thing and the WUR which is part of the filing so less likely to be the cause. Later Kjet engines also has a small square isv valve that had a vac connection and a electrical connection.

My initial guess is that as a conversion something could be plumbed in wrong. Can you get a good picture up or emailed?

The aux air valve should be plumbed into the inlet manifold on one side and the inlet boot on the other but can't remember 100%.

I have the original Vw manuals for the engine which I can look at some time for you
