I would love to fit EFi to the CU engine but struggling to justify it to myself and other half re. the cost saving/better fuel economy/more power.
VWspeed shop do a kit, don't think it is MS.
Any thoughts??

Efi on Aircooled is a mare due to inconsistent cylinder temp monitoring. The very reason why VW went watercooled.

To go on a gti chap.

Some proper good thread on CGTI and although doesn't give mega improvements (maybe 5 bhp and 5lb/ft) apparently its a different drive and improvements on paper don't reflect seat of pants dyno.

Found a chap to build one for me properly so I am 100% confident/happy.

Speedshop sell DTA. Really good bit of kit. Had it fitted to a 1600tp for my splitty last year. Head temp was taken from a boss/blank on #3, obviously hottest cylinder. Paul is an awesome guy and has a dyno in his garage at home so can map it for you :ok

The cylinder head temp's not used to affect the fuelling map on MS, though - just to "push the choke in".

The very reason why VW went watercooled.

VW had been fuel injecting (and catalysing) air-cooled flat fours for near-on a decade for the US by the time the WBX came out - and it was another few years before Europe saw injected WBXs.

I really ought to do something with the MS (plus damn near all hardware) that I've got sat in a box... Actually, that's almost the easy bit. The car that it's going on needs to get somewhere considerably nearer the road before I even think about fuelling...

Yes, true. But it was very crude FI and you can't really compare it to a modern fully-mapped engine management system like MS. Taking engine temp from the hottest cylinder just shows up the limitations of air cooling: you end up de-rating it's potential performance by fuelling/timing for the poorest-performing cylinder i.e. the one most likely to detonate.

In the middle of spec'ing MS for an AGG today, hopefully will be ordered by tonight. VERY VERY VERY experienced/well respected chap who specializes in mk2/mk3 8v/16v golfs.

His threads read like porn :ok

Found some dyno plots (from trusted garage  ) of a 2.0l with ported head and mild cam on MS , 140bhp and 145 lb/ft , more importantly torque curve is smoother than Hutches chat up lines  :ok

interesting read - and he would appear to be getting a respectable 28mpg for highway cruising.

So are you intending going MS on your DH or get hold of a 2.1 and MS that.

Torque curve flatter than a witches t*t? Or fatter than a Pete Tong playlist (one for the old skool)
145lb.ft is very good for a 2ltr.

145lb.ft is a solid 196Nm! Stock ADY makes 170Nm @ 2400 iirc :ok

All old news at IG16 of course... we are so far behind it's laughable
