Help needed please.2 litre Aircooled wont start

My husband has just rebuilt our 2 litre Aircooled engine. All back in the van but the damn thing won't start. We were wondering if a fellow member, who lives in the Chesterfield area, would be good enough to pop out and help us out with this. We have fuel and spark and assuming its a timing issue but lots of messing around with that has still given us no joy. My husband is now nearing the end of his patience levels and can only suggest taking it to a local garage, but we just dont have the spare cash at the mo. Any help would be greatly appreciated. it may also be a valve issue .

can you check the compressions ?


hydraulic tappits may be not working and valves open or closed permanently!

I accidentally knocked a wire off the distributor case once and got the same symptoms.
Is yours connected?

Thanks all.will check all these but think hubby already has.hes thinking more on the lines of the spark isn't strong enough so in process of checking all connector,earths,etc.
