Tools needed for hightop removal

Hi there,
Just wondering what choices of tools are needed to remove a hightop roof ,so I can treat the rust under it?
Are all high tops held on with rivets and sealent?
And do I attack it from the inside of the roof?

Sorry for the late reply ,here are some pics I did try the other weekend to try and cut it with a knife from inside but it was hard and awkward .











These are all the pics I have as you can see it has some suspect rust in the corners and the sealant is crap.

Mikes' (mm) the expert, but when I did mine I worked from the inside with a combination of wide bolster, narrow old chisel and knife. If found the bolster allowed me to lever the side of the high top away from the tin which broke the stiction of the sealant.

the hard bits were around the top of the a pillar as there isn't much access.

the Autosleeper ones were rivetted as well but I guess it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer.

They are a pig, you've just got to crack on and do it!

Old serrated kitchen knife to cut/saw through the sealant and a wood chisel to lever it up with is what I used, had it off in 3 hours which I thought was good for my first go!

I have a plaster board saw so that should do the same job,I shall give it ago tomorrow hopefully.

There is a picture somewhere of someone doing it to one of them low car park things. My pop top tried to come up going down the road and that was bad enough. Would be awful.

Well I crack on with it and got the back and the offside done,and here are the tools I used

I used the Jewson scraper that I sharpened and hammered it through the silicone and as I went I hammered the bolster chesil in next to it to keep it open.
Just got to do the near side and the front and that's it.

Keep the posts coming. I'm itching to see what you find with the hidden roof section. I'll be doing exactly the same job later this year

I shall buddy ,as you can see from the pics there is some rust in places but from inside it don't look to bad.

Hopefully yours will be as easy as mine - Leisuredrive high top. The only thing holding it on was bead of mastic along the front edge above the windscreen and 2 beads along the sides about 30cm long each!! Not quite sure how it stayed on so long to be honest!!
