Help me help the mechanic?

Post by Moyners »

Hi,

I've looked through the list of recommended garages and there don't seem to be any that close to me (North London).

I have been using a very good and approachable local mechanic, Graham, who doesn't seem to have much T25 experience but is keen and real old-school (he likes the fact there is nothing electronic about Vanny).

I'm looking for help to find the right words to use when talking to Graham to help us get to grips with Vanny's gearchange issue. I bought the repair kit from Brickwerks and Graham fitted it. It immediately helped in that you can get from gear to gear pretty easily - a lot better than before - but I Iound that quite shortly after it was fitted that you need to know where the gear you are aiming for is, it's like there's no H-shaped pattern to guide the gearchange (and you don't have to press down to get into reverse).

Before I go back to him and simply saying what I've said above, I wondered is there anything T25 specific available as replacement parts or is there simply a better, more technical description I could use that would help him "get it".

Thanks

ok....

I think what you are trying to describe is the gate.....

under the gear stick underneath the cab floor is 3 sided metal box. In this box will be nylon guides. It would appear that yours are worn.

there is a thread here https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... e#p7915409

the guides are available I think...may be worth a call or look at brickwerks...
