Starting problems after running

Post by Twistedpro »

Hi, I am new to the forum and owning a T25 and I apologise if this question has been asked before. I bought my first T25 2 weeks ago, its a 1991 2.1i automatic caravelle. When I purchased it I got the van serviced had an oil and coolant change. The battery on the Van was undersized so I have replaced this with the correct size. When starting it was making some odd noises and I was told the starter motor could do with replacing. I have changed the starter motor and it now fires on the first turn when I come to the van from cold.

However, I am having problems when starting the engine after running and its warm. if I stop and fill with petrol or stop in a shop it then really struggles to start. The starter motor sounds like its turning over but it wont fire. If I pump the accelerator it will eventually spark be a bit sluggish for a second before returning to normal. This issue does seem to be getting worse the more I use the van.

When running it idols at 1k and runs steady, when driving it runs nicely and is very smooth. I cant fault the driver after i have the van running. I am inexperienced with old cars and am trying to learn as quickly as possible Thanks for any help and advice you can provide
