I have just remembered, my full size (80 profile) tyres will not fit in the spare wheel carrier, so I have had to put a steely in as as spare with a standard tyre as a spare I assume others running bigger than standard tyres have had this slight problem.

I'm still faffin with the new MOT - needed a couple of anti roll bar rubbers / a brake hose / steering gator bellows to get it through this year.

Once thats all sorted and I have my new hub caps on I will post s picture of the new tyres

i' suppose Wide tyres are better in the dry but somebody told me they are worse in the winter, is that right?

Mine had only rears on just for a week while I waited for another pair to come in,

Looked a bit "old school" Custom Car stylee with skinnys up front ,

I prefer the front and rear to match

Steering isnt feeling any heavier for the fatter tyres -

They recommended I go for 205 14 as they are commercial tyres what do you think will they make a difference?

Hi Kit,

mine are also commercial rated and 215, 80,14's.

Go to the online the tyre size calculator http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_size_calculators.htmlas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to work out the difference - the 80 is a percentage of the width - therefore 80% of 205 is less than 80% of 215 and you are trying to get the biggest diameter to lower revs at a given cruising speed - .

I worked it out to be the difference between gaining 8% or 10 % reduction in rpm for a given speed.

Got my MOT today so able to try the new tyres out on flat roads and hills I know - and certainly makes a difference

Interesting thread here for me too. I have been running TDI 1z engine with standard wheel/tyres and standard 1.6CS gearbox for last four years or so. I'm happy driving country roads cruising at 90kmh but on motorways if I go much faster there is a resonance that rattles the kitchen sink / hob at around 100kmph. If I increase speed a bit more to 110 the resonance stops but I feel I am over revving the engine so no use as a cruising speed.

Tyres are ready for replacement now so I had been thinking of going to 195/80R14 as had thought that was max size for 5.5J rim (as per the tyre width equivalancy table here http://www.kouki.co.uk/utilities/visual ... calculator) .

Checking a few more links tonight showed 205/80R14 is OK with 5.5J rims according to some tyre suppliers data. Matt did your tyre supplier have anything to indicate 215/80R14 are safe with these rims? Not trying to say they don't fit or anything but want reassurance as tend to drive with family in back.

I too would be interested if anyone with the 205 or 215 tyres on standard steel wheels could check whether a the wheel fits in the spare cradle. I can't say I have ever driven with the spare since I had the van. Have had a few punctures but as I carry a small tyre compressor I just pump them up and drive to nearest tyre place. Maybe I could keep a standard spare, stick a yellow 50kmph sticker on it and call it a space saver

Billy has them on his and I would trust his judgment as he is a very experienced with T25's.
