Pinion shaft removal 091 box

Post by daddiehomiedog »

Just looking at the box and scratched my head whilst looking at the pics.... Can I remove the pinion shaft assembly from the gear carrier housing without taking off the retaining ring first? It looks like it should come out but I've removed all the circlips and thought it might push through with a little persuasion, no!!!!

Is there a sequence to allow it all to come apart? Seems silly to me to have a circlip on the end of the shaft that doesn't do anything!!!

both shafts and the gear carrier come off together, you have to undo pinion bearing retaining ring first
mainshaft retaining cirlip keeps mainshaft in place
read the manual it is all in Bentley

Thanks Aiden, thought that would be the case, just hopeful that a series of selections may magically allow it to fall apart!!

I'll have to make a tool to undo the retaining ring

Thanks
