Tips on Westy gas tank refurb please

A while ago I seem to remember someone refurbing their Westy gas tank. I can't find any mention of it now though.

I have got to remove mine at the weekend as I'm having the fridge panel sorted, so it seems the right time to spruce it up.
just wondering what the best way to go about stripping & re-painting as I don't have any previous experience. Also do I need to remove the gauge & valves?

Would be great to hear from someone who's been there

All on hold at the moment, but will be getting back on it. Fittings don't need to be removed, but makes for a nicer job

I guess you used a proper spay gun to get that finish?

Also was the tank primed first?

I just got it blasted then, then I sprayed it with white hammerite from a rattle can.
No primer, hammerite just goes straight on

i could have powder coated it along with blasting and doing the bike rack, but white is nice as it wont ever see mud

Yes, I would try and find plumbing fittings of the same thread size, then remove after powdercoat. But I wouldn't powdercoat it, painting is easier.

I had mine blasted and then sprayed with 2 pack black.
I removed all the valves and the gauge and protected the threads before hand.

The best thing that I did was to mount it on the "wrong" side so that it's under the sliding door.

I've got to remove it this weekend as my bus is due its HU (MoT) in March.

Does make sense having it on the slider side but my ebber will hopefully be going back in that spot
I do have a pretty long hose (tee hee) to reach the awning for the tilly tallisman
