2l CU, leaking oil and wont start (after rebuild)

Post by benlawlor85 »

Hi all,
Well today was the day i finally got around to filling the engine up with old adjusting the carbs and attempting to start her.
The engine only turns over very slowly Im presuming this is that the battery is old. My Ctek says its charged it shows about 12.5volts. The graound lead from the battery gets very hot too. And also the positive lead to the starter doesnt look great lots of green fur on the end.
I also have an oil leak, at first i thought it was from the new oil filter but upon inexpection it seems to be the oil cooler, Not to take the oil cooler out its an engine out job aint it...?
and lastly my mechnical fuel pump doesn seem to be delivering ANY fuel!

So im guessing its first take engine out and sort out oil cooler leak.
New Battery, New Fuel Pump, and a new positive lead to Starter.
On a plus note both my chokes seem to open up! lol

Any help and advice would be great.

Cheers
Ben

OK, so i didnt take the engine out but dropped it by abuot 6 inches, This enabled me to remove the rear tins, fan housing and fan to get to the oil cooler. The reason it was leaking... when assembling it originally one of the spacer washers fell off. luckily i found it it the shed with some other bits.
Thats a note to self when putting the cooler on two small spacer washers are needed on the outermost studs, these are not even shown in the manual!
