clutch renewal cost.

Post by what2do »

Evening (dependant upon you read this),

does anyone have an opinion on what I could expect to pay for a clutch replacement on a 2.1 wbx?

Thanks in advance.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

2-3 hours labour at your local rate plus clutch about £100, so probably £200 upwards, clutch slave cylinders have been known to fail when disturbed and clutch slave pipework can also disintegrate so possible extra £100 if it's all ancient and never disturbed, a good garage familiar with 25 year old vehicles will be anticipating that possibility and quote accordingly,, and will also advise replacing spigot bearing whilst in there, £8 part 15mins extra labour

While you are spending all this money on the replacement, make sure the garage fits at least a Sachs clutch not a cheaper (actually not much cheaper) alternative. This option will last a lot longer.

About £80 an hour in local garages here. One bedroom flat in my block £240k up from £130k about 14 years ago. One bedroom flat to rent is £1k a month +.

My kids have no chance of buying anything in a 50 mile radius of London until I pop my clogs.

Thanks for the replies, not as fearsome as I'd been expecting. Thanks.

it's not just down south, I was quoted 5 hours at £81/hour plus parts and labour in Aberdeen to replace my clutch at New Year, RAC recovered it back to Wales and I did it myself for £100 plus 4 hours of my life

Clutch 2.1 late £120 for Sach.
You are going to be charged 4 hours (which should also allow time to replace the parts below) so £40 to £80 per hour....plus the dreaded!

Don't forget...it is advisable to change both the spigot shaft bearing (£5.46) and starter motor oilite bush another (£1.20) whilst replacing the clutch.
Check gearbox input shaft and rear main oil seals.

And.. ask them to make sure the clutch fork fingers are nice and rounded as they generally go flat with wear and the new release bearing will prob stick and make it feel horrible...
Easily rounded with a file...
