HELP! 1.9 DG Auto throttle linkage

Post by RCN »

Sorry MOD's , know this should be in Tech, but I'm in the middle of removing my engine and i can't see how to remove the throttle linkage. I thought i could just get away with removing the throttle likeage itself from the carb via the 2 "E" clips, but that doesnot release the link. 2 nd thought was to "pop" off the little bulb like piece near the carb. I see a little clip that i can move, but any force up/ backwards or forwards and this does not budge. I'm worrid that if i really force it it will break .
How do i remove th ethrottle linkage on this? 1990, 1.9DG Petrol, Carb., Automatic
Cheers

Have you tried removing it from the gearbox. At least you will be able to remove the engine.

No, I've been following the Haynes manual step by step. I've got to where I've removed the torque nut bolts (any suggestions on how to get those things back in when you can't even see them ) and the 2 top engine to trans. bolts. Tomorrow, i go back to it and will try that. the only other thing i thought of doing was to unscrew the linkage by the carb. Fingers crossed.

The throttle lever that attaches to the carb goes back to a lever on the rt side of the gearbox , undo the 13mm nut and this pops off this lever then you can move the rod backwards out of the machanism on the carb after removing the c clip on the end of the spring. Now you can get the rod out of the way. Easy peasy. At least it was on my auto DG with a pierburg 2E3.

On the subject of the engine to trans bolts I had to use an air wrench on mine as they were rusted tight!! dont forget the two that enter from the belhousing side!! As for putting the torque convertor bolts back in just make sure the convertor and the drive plate line up as much as poss then use a small dentist type mirror again easier than you think but much easier with the inlet manifold removed!!

Right, back at it again today. Hoping to get it out to compare it to the replacement engine. i'll harvest the best bits (hoses etc) to make the best of both. Think I'll splurge and get a stainless steel exhaust so i will never have to worry about having to remove those rear pipes.

Engines out!
Realized that little clip had to be wiggled out and the linkage came straight off :D
Unfortunitly the lower 2 bolts on the bell housing had no intention of giving way and the lower section of the bell housing has snapped off. :( Got it off and cleaned and hoping i can get it welded with some 4mm straps of bar stock to hold it across the breaks.
