"Pausing" When going up the gears/revs
Hi all,
Last couple of weeks in the mornings the van is pausing when I change up a gear and add the revs - just accelerating as normal, not booting it. This lasts for about 4 miles of driving and is then fine. When I come home from work it is also fine. it is quite noticeable on both Petrol and LPG.... today someone nearly rammed me up the backside because the change of gear coincided with a hill!
Last year had fuel pump and filter replacement, carb was cleaned, new exhaust. Having looked under the lid I get the impression that the engine might be a bit "mucky". Not sure though. Any ideas?
Thanks

Re: "Pausing" When going up the gears/revs
does the choke pull down work during the warm up period?
i.e does it open the choke flap when you accelerate.

Short answer is I don't know. How would I go about finding out?
Cheers Kev.

take the duct off the top of the carb, start the engine, get an assistant to rev it, a bit, and watch the flap at the top of the throat.
it should open as it's revved...and close to 3mm when it's not

Sooooooooooooooo, it definitely isn't the pull down.
Is the next logical choice the distributor/cap/rotor arm? I had new plugs and leads last year....
Cheers
Chris

For closure (hopefully...). Replaced the distributor cap and rotor arm and all was well this morning.
Thanks.

Re: "Pausing" When going up the gears/revs
I had the same thing a couple of weeks ago...
I got some carb cleaner and gave it a good blast with that, then took the air pipe off and blanked it off with my hand while revving it to clean it out. One last blast with the carb cleaner and it's not pausing at all now (touch wood!).
Hope this quick and easy fix helps...?!

Re: "Pausing" When going up the gears/revs
I should probably add that this was after I checked the choke pull down was working, and it was!
....and after I replaced the dizzy cap and ht leads (these made it better, but a smaller pause was still there).

Re: "Pausing" When going up the gears/revs
I thought this had been solved but it hasn't. If anything the "flat spot" is now more dramatic....
If I put my foot flat to the accelerator during the pause it does nothing for about 2-3 seconds, then kicks in and begins accelerating. Any other thoughts anyone?
