Brake pipes

Hello,

I'm replacing a rear wheel bearing on my 1985 t25 and the brake pipes do not look too happy. I'm thinking of ordering the ones I need from here: http://www.brakepipes2go.co.uk/brake_pipes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but I do not know the Union sizes.

Could anyone help with this?

Manufactured exclusively for us to original spec.

Double walled steel coated inside and out with copper and with a further zinc coating on the outside.
Finally coated with olive coloured plastic coating... exactly like the originals!

Made to the correct length with the correct ends to joing the Rear Flexis to the Wheel cylinder.



Supplied in straight lengths for you to bend to original shape.

Yes, then the postage.

Just go to a local garage. I have access to a flaring tool now but if I ever needed a replacement like that I just asked a local garage. Not worth messing about for something like that. Fiver at most - tenner both sides perhaps. They only take a min to make up. You can also get complete copper kits - did my whole vehicle for under £50.

Heres the pipe, ends - and the tool. That way you can make up exactly what you want, when you want.

I like the original spec of the brickwerks lines.
Can you get this sort of quality on ebay?

I'm sure you do but there are alternatives - I just gave some. Mine have been on 9 years now (ebay). I wouldn't want anyone to feel I was nepotistic.

We wouldn't use copper pipe in the workshop, we sell it for people to do a cheap job, we wouldn't use it though.
We would however use Kunifer, much better material and less likely to kink when being bent.
However we have a company that manufacturers some brake lines in the same material as per factory.
Correct length, correct ends [we have trouble with some aftermarket "cheap" ends not seating properly] and a long lasting material.

Well, I gave in and ordered on Brickwerks, although I couldn't get discount because my membership no from the club hasn't come through yet

I also ordered a set of braided brake hoses as the original rubber ones on my van are, well, I'm surprised they are still holding up.

i don't have a problem. My suggestion about having pipes made up locally is a good one, particularly if you need the job sorted there and then (often the case). Lots of jobs are like that. By the time you've mused what to do or where to go, sometimes its quicker and often more cost effective to think on your feet or use local facilities. I'm amazed at just how helpful VW commercial here in Cov can be at times and some items they've sold me were less that say GSF or VW Heritage. I also use an amazing place off the beaten track that can match almost anything, particularly bearings.

I'm a great believer in using local businesses where you can lest they vanish from the map entirely - and being resourceful. These are tough times all round. By nepostic I mean I don't have a leaning towards any one supplier. I always try to base my answers (and any projects I put foward) on the possibility that limited funds may be a deciding factor. I get good feedback so I must be doing something right. What people forget is that many camper owners have young families and are on very tight budgets. I don't need a cuddle but the sentiment isn't wasted

I'm sure Simon would accept that this forum is good for Brickwerks business and through well founded recommendation I'm sure it channels a fair amount of work and parts orders in Simons direction including my own from time to time.
However, buying smaller low cost items can be prohibitive due to postal costs and as Ralph points out, many non specialized items, such as brake pipes, can easily be sourced locally.

I'm rather curious about the Brickwerks sourced brake pipes...sold as being exactly like the originals, copper and zinc coated steel.......don't they also rot like the originals? surely Kunifer is better? or am I missing something.....

I was going to faff about making a set in copper but the ones from werks look good and at £6 each - & by the time I would have bought the copper and unions - to and from local motor factors etc etc worth getting
