Distributer refitting

Post by Poseidon »

I'm having a bit of a nightmare, removed the distributer from my 1.9 DG and fitted a new Hall Sender unit..
I'm now trying to refit the distributer, but it won't make a good contact with the drive in the engine block, I get it bolted down, but upon turning over the engine the rotor arm doesn't turn :(
I've refitted it several times, but still no joy.. Am I missing something?

you need to make sure it's slotted in snug, do this by placing the distributor in, then rotate the rotor arm slowly by hand until it drops down and it should slot in place.

Someone is going to come along and mention the '180 degree phenomena', mark my words!!!!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

If you replaced the seal it can be hard to get it past the edge of the hole you need to make sure the pinch bolt is loose so you can twist it and one the seal is in move the bracket into place and do up the pinch bolt

It should be obvious if its nor pushed home if it is down corectly it can't possibly not locate

Are you sure the rotor arm is properly located and not slipping on the shaft

180 phenemena...indeed!

I seem to remember the need to twist it slightly as it goes in....but that could just have been the way the garage did it.

Anyway - it sorted out my 180 degree phenomenon lol!

oh - not sure if relevant, but the petrol pump had to come off on the 1.9 Dg to get it out and back in...

nope - it was my 1.9dg 2wd...

The reason the dizzy was being investigated was th was missing when warm. It hunted on idle....badly. sometimes it would be happy at 900, then it would idle at 1500!! so, thinking it was fuel related I took it for a gas service. While they were adjusting it, it did its heavy revy thing...and shot up to 1500, fell to 600 and then ran liumpy as hell..

I asked if they could put my dizzy back to its "correct" position as it was 180 degrees out....we had tried but couldn't get it to release. It would get so far and stop. The first thing the garage did was to remove the mechanical fuel pump - something about the pump drive interferring with the dizzy drive.Anyhoos - it came out real easy after the pump was off. Then they saw that a washer was missing under the dizzy that stops the hard dizzy eroding the ally engine block. It had also worn enough to jump in its housing somehow...causing the hunting and erratic idle. Anyway, that's what they told me....they put another washer back, and replaced dizzy...but it does twist as it goes in (when I was watching it) and this is the reason it can be 180 out aparently. Its been fine ever since.

so no, not syncro clique lol! And maybe it was just the way they did things. But there was no way we could get that dizzy out. We undid the bolts and it lifted some way..but no amount of twising and pulling was getting it out. Didn't want to do damage so went to the garage.

I was just wondering if in your case the drive for the mechanical pump is in someway interferring with the placement of the dizzy. Mybe someone more knowledgeable will come along :D

Good luck!

I've decided that as I had never replaced the whole distributor it was probably due another one.. Delivered today, just had a go at refitting.. Once I got the flywheel to TDC I tried to get the new distributor in, but as it's new it's really tight.. Will retry with the fuel pump off, it's quite difficult to get the new seal is as there isn't a great place to grip to twist and push..
Will have another go tomorrow when it's better light.. Just want Vinny running now :)

Yep, tried that.

Still learning with the T25, so am wearing my tin hat :run

With all of the Aircooled dubs I've owned, I've always replaced the standard dizzy for a Bosch 009, is there a similar improvement to be had with the wbx engine - mine is a 1.9DG
