accelerator pump problems

Post by soulfly71 »

Hiya folks, i have a ridiculous question for you?
Where can i buy an Accelerator pump and or gaskets?
Cant find an accelerator pump on the usual vw shops?
I somehow managed to put a hole in the diaphram of the new gasket (dont ask, repaired with superglue and a puncture repair kit) lol, and wondered if anyone has bought a new pump and does it come supplied with gaskets? or do i have to buy another gasket kit at £40?
:ok

You could try gower and lee but I suspect you will need to buy the whole rebuild kit
Be careful there are two lengths of accelerator pump
Get the carb ref number before phoning the last suffix is the important bit

Thanks Itchyfeet! Il give them a phone 2mrw, broke down today, only took 4 hours to get home 7 miles away, 3.3hrs waiting and 10 mins home. Needing to replace the whole carb unit and start again i think, a mate has a Webber carb from a golf jetted for a 1.8, dont suppose youd know if this would fit my van or even if it could be jetted for a 1.9 dg?

Sorry I don't know if the webber will fit I think it needs a manufold mod but not sure
Have you replaced the float chamber needle valve?

Get your location up and somebody may be able to suggest a local garage to help good carbs are hard to come by nowdays

Yeah i changed the float and needle for a later model float etc as they cant get early ones now from Gower & Lee. I had been told it needs a manifold gasket mod but i just want something straight forward that works, changed the main gasket bc i thought i have an airleak at the carbs bc its backfiring (Peirburg cough) changed the accelerator gasket and anything else i could renew but, a local old skool garage mech had changed the carb settings for mot emissions which i now realise my van doesnt come under so im guessing that it hasnt run properly since he fannied around with it and now its overfueling and nothing seems to work, trying to find another carb now with little joy!

Im in Fife if anyone else has any good pplk who actually know what theyre doing with carb set up, RAC man told me about a tuning company in Dalgety Bay that he swears by so il look them up 2mrw as well.
