Time for a repaint and new colour

Where I'm painting over with the top coat, I'm using Vactan. Cavities like the bottoms of tailgate and side slider are pretty sound, so to keep them that way I will be flooding them with Dinitrol (thinned with white spirit).
When I did my own cab steps several years ago, I got rid of the rubber mat/dirt traps and sanded and painted them. I used some 'aircraft' aluminium sticky tape to make some circular covers for the holes left behind by the lugs of the mats, and theyve not been an issue since.
I don't use the steps when I get in/out..

Ok thanks for the info. Is Vactan in the form of a spray can or painted on?
I tend to jump into the van and not use the cab steps but the wife and kids do. Think i will remove rubber mats and start again. I have purchased (foolishly) a pair of rubbers from JK. Awful Like hard plastic, should of gone elsewhere.

Day 8 and (including some help from other 80-90ers ) over 70 hours work so far.

Finished sanding the doors today. Have taken off the 'door furniture' to make best job of it that I can. Marked their positions as best I could, so am hoping for not too many dramas when I refit them


Then managed to finish the last parts of the main bodywork, the two cab door thresholds. Needed to cover some previous welded patches at top of arches, and also work out how far 'into' the van I will take the paint line.
Mixing up the paint tonight (the dvd recommends thinning the Rustoleum with 15-20% white spirit, and do it the night before). Also means the paint won't be stone cold, as I'm doing this in the living room...shhhhh!)


....can't wait to see the colour/s going on. Might need to wear sunglasses!

when doing the ninsides as such, and especially when doing 2 tone you need to take care . the vertical aspect of the shut faces is seen even with seals fitted

Yes, had that with the previous colour (never took doors off then) and it looks bad, so this time painting them all. Good call.

Somebody is doing one 2 tone blue and white on here and they have done the blue up the B post so I think it will show can't think which thread as on phone and too slow

This is how we did it, blue inside on all door shuts pillars and inside panels too.

Long day of it today. Painting is so much better than sanding

Starting with all the fiddly bits before putting doors back on and getting the rollers out. (Need doors on asap as only got loan of workshop for rest of this week)...

It's a good point I need to check how it was done but I don't notice it when I looked over it. They were quite precise with masking .

its just that "sometimes" the way the seals sit when doors are closed lets you see a nit more than you would have thought and its no deal breaker but it irritates me

Day number (I've lost count, it's all bluring into one!) at the workshop. Now all the reveals and thresholds are done, time to start on the good stuff.
