What is this?

Post by clinning »

Haven't seen then on any other van and can't seem to get any results on search. First thoughts, maybe aerial bracket, bike rack attachment. But would like to know for sure. Any ideas?

Could be for a spare wheel carrier, a bit like this

http://www.vw-t3-bus-shop.de/eng/syncro ... ction.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I know its not quite the same but perhaps previous owner has ad hoc converted it.

PS dont say its for a top secret project you may not get an answer :wink:

They could be stainless steel pop rivets but I agree doesn't look strong enough

Whatever they were for, they clearly didn't get used very often - not a mark on the paint.

True, but it may have been fitted with a bonding agent too, if its good enough for an aeroplane :ok

Regardless, it would be a bluddy stupid spot to hang a spare wheel.

Aerial pole gets my vote. Awning pole bracket(s) is doubtful seeing as there isn't any corresponding ones towards the front of the van

Obviously not attached to the side of the van, hinged with a strap to keep it over the rear door
