Sliding door hinge cover

Post by tonytech »

OK, 1990 Caravelle.

My sliding door middle hinge bearing has collapsed, I've read a bit on here on how to fix, so Im ready to get stuck in.
I've undone the two screws that hold the panel covering the sliding door hinge, but it doesnt seem to want to come off.
I've got a Bentley manual, but its a bit unclear,
Do I just Jiggle it upwards, or does it need a bit more brute force and ignorance?

there should be a sticky up top abaout this.
both screws out,
thgen grab it either side and waggle it in and out so it will move about 1" out ,this will allow it to clear the securing brackets from which you just got the screws out
personaly i use the heel of my hand and thump them up alternating from left to right side, once you have a bit of movement then move it out enough to clear the mounting brackets and gently bend the bracket so it sits under the cover lug,
now nothing will stop it coming up save for crud and years of crap, yes it can need a bit of force
