Brake light switch?

Post by kit »

I am now on my 3rd switch in 2 years they work for a while then they just need me to stamp on the pedal before they work, do I need to source better quality or look for another fault?

I had the same problem. Replaced both with new genuine VW items two years ago and earlier this year they started leaking and stopped working straight after MOT man stomped on the brakes. Seems like the rubber seal inside the switch doesn't age well.

It's interesting to hear from Simon about how rare it is to change one of these switches, because let me tell you, 20 years ago working at a main VAG dealership, changing these was pretty common.
Yes some would leak but the majority were changed as described, either erratic brake lights (flashing 2/3 times before coming on or having to press hard before they would work). Just my experience.
