How hard can you hit them to get them off?

Re: Brake drums..
Go in the back entry hole *sniggers* and back the shoes off using a small flat screwdriver or the proper tool if you have it. Tapping from side to side reasonably hard is ok but not welting them with the FBH.

Re: Brake drums..
Remove the 11mm (bolt head) retaining screw and then spray some penetrating spray around the studs and centre flange.
Yes...sure...slacken off the brake shoe adjusters but if it just won't move it needs 'bouncing' off..a good sized hammer 21/2lb hitting very hard but FLAT on the face of the drum (definitely not on the sides) ...5 or 6 good hits will have the effect of 'BOUNCING' the drum free.
WHATCH YOUR STUDS......don't miss! lol

Re: Brake drums..
And its all done. Smacking the front did indeed do the job thanks Martin x Ian we tried the back passage. ..but the brakes were already slack...it was rolling. Oh and for anyone doing this for the first time in a syncro. ...with the handbrake off and out of gear....the wheels will not turn freely....

Re: Brake drums..
IIRC There should be enough allowance in the VC to allow rears to turn with the fronts on the floor.

Re: Brake drums..
Mine don't either, you have to lift one of the fronts. That's one of the annoyances with a syncro. (This is with a new vc by the way, and it operating correctly)ermie571 wrote:then maybe i have sommat wrong cos neither side would turn with one rear off the floor.
