Rear Big Bumper

Post by Sir Brixalot »

The left hand of my rear big bumper fell off last night meaning a nice trek down the side of the motorway to get it. It had been badly repaired previously and there wasn't really anything attaching the end cap to the bumper apart from a scruffy mass of fibre glass. Does anyone know a good source for replacement- I can see one on the for sale for £350 - surely that's too much? Thanks a lot

There are reproductions available, but they also aren't cheap.

Give http://www.nwvw.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; a try, very helpful when I was looking for a front one.
Also I think Ralf85 on here knows someone who can mend them, he had one that was pretty smashed up repaired and it looked as good as new to me

Trucker is right. My rear bumper was broken by a rear end crash and my man repaired it perfectly. It cost the other persons insurance about £150 to repair and be re-sprayed, but its perfect now. Where are you in the UK?

Thanks Ralf, Sunny Brixton-the London one. Was saving up to get bubbling seams and damaged hi top fixed. May just leave it in the short term or get standard bumper as stop gap. Who did yours for you, mine has been snapped where the corner meets the main part.

Chris at B&T Coachworks, Tring, Hertfordshire, based on an old airfield (trains from central London). He did the whole outside of my van two years ago. Windows out, doors off, bumpers and side planks off too (they needed repairs too), sandblasted and then replaced several panels and a complete re-spray. In the end it cost £5K but I was more than happy to pay it.

I then had damage caused by a massive hailstorm in August 2012 including damage to my new pop top canvas. Adrian Flux insurance paid B&T for those repairs.

B&T then repaired my rear bumper last Summer. On this occasion Sheilas Wheels paid B&T for the repair! Chris did laugh when I brought the van back again - 'not having much luck are you' he said amongst other things. He had it repaired and re-sprayed it for me within a week. The van is still looking fine!

On closer inspection after knocking off the fibreglass bodge the corner seems OK, it's the "sleeve" and screw in mounts on the long part that have snapped.
