Switchgear lighting

Post by poshbuggers »

Today I finally got my dash pod working correctly. The instruments all function now and the off-dash panels and binnacle all have backlighting for the first time in at least 2 years.

The main headlight switch, and fog light switch have the backlighting bulbs intact (new ones fitted for the sake of elimination) but no feed to power them. Can anyone advise where I should trace the lack of 12v from to fault find? Fuse or back at the instrument panel?

electrics, dont you love them,a couple of years ago I replaced the indicator lever and the ignition switch, then noticed that when I was driving and the fridge was on 12 volts it no longer showing the red led indicator light.I thought that it was a bit strange then my wife noticed that it was working and another time it was not working, strange,I then noticed that it only worked when the lights were on,how or why I have no idea, still the same at the moment, will get round it checking it out one day :?

The lamp in the fog light switch is not to illuminate the switch at night when the headlights are on, but to indicate when the rear fog light is switched on.

The only switches that illuminate at night are the headlight and heated rear window switches. Do you have a Haynes Manual?

Oh so the foglight bulb is just the 'telltale' light?

I'd be happy with just the headlight one (I have a solid tailgate so the heated rear window is no longer used).

Fuse 14 feeds the lighting switch illumination lamp. Looking at the Haynes wiring diagrams it looks like it's 'on' constantly when the ignition is turned on. Mine doesn't work I don't think; I say I don't think because I can't see it, but there again the heated rear window switch one does work but you need the eyesight of a 5 year old to be able to see it clearly.

What sort of lamps go in there? I might plonk this on my 'to do' list
