Front shock fitting Bilstein B4 dilemma.

Post by waltraud »

Hi. 1983 petrol type 25 2wd. Fitting new bilstein b4 shocks. Haynes shows only one rubber damping ring on top of shock under the top metal plate under final top nut. Brickwerks website says two of these damping rings per side....does that mean yoh should place one rubber on top of the plastic/rubberised shock miuntjng unit ie under the top metal body shock mount.......thanks for clues....

[quote="waltraud"]In order to get the bilsteins to fit into the upper plastic cover / damping unit I had to remove a small spacer 'washer' which is approx 10mm thick. This was supplied with the bilstein unit. With this spacer unit on the shaft it would not fit into the top part of the plastic retaining tube but without it the top, threaded mounting bar protrudes higher than usual such that the plastic 'cap' at the very top of the assembly will not fit fully on. Any suggestions as to correct fitting process and where /if the spacer washer should fit. Our website says this.

Replacement damper ring (bush) for the front Dampers on T3 models.
Also suits the bottom of the rear dampers on the T4.

T3 - 1 required per side, 2 per vehicle.
T4 - 2 required per side, 4 per vehicle.

Genuine VW Part.

It doesn't say there are 2 per side, it says 2 per vehicle..

Should have gone to spec savers!

Big improvement with the Bilsteins? They are next on my list of 'upgrades' with standard springs. ;)
