hi all
I completed an ej22 conversion a few months ago, Everything is working fine and it runs smoothly. The only problem I have is that it is running rich as you can smell it and the mot came back with an O2 reading of 1.90% where my mates reading was only 0.46 when the engine was in his bus.
I have got a spare MAF which I will try when I get back from work on tuesday but my other concern is weather or not it could be the O2 sensor in the exhaust isnt picking up properly.
Thanks for reply
no fault code but changed the lamba sensor anyway witch made no difference. I am wondering if I have got the lamba to far away form engine as the exhaust gasses have to travel aprox 1000mm before hitting lamba. Only reason I say that is I heard they have to get upto about 300 degrees to operate correctly unless I am mistaken.
Im thinking of moving it closer to the engine but then it will only be reading from one manifold as I have a twin exit tvr exhaust and the two manifolds feed in each side. but iv been told it is ok to go from one manifold.
I also have a spare MAF and again no difference.
would the cooland temp sensor bring up a code?
No cat either but neither did my mates when he had it
Any advice etc would be great
Thanks

If you measure from one bank, then you'll only be taking into account the results of burning the fuel in that one bank. Probably fine, but if one side's got an air leak or something funny with the fuel rail or whatever, then it's going to be a duff reading.
OTOH, if you measure further back, it'll take longer to heat up and give you a valid result.
You could use a three- or four-wire lambda with a heater, instead of an unheated one, and get it up to temp quickly. Or you could just accept that it might not be the best possible reading. Whichever's easier, probably. If you fancy rewelding the lambda boss, then move it. If you prefer to just chuck a little bit more money and wire at it, then heat it.

Welding a new boss in is no problem. When you say 4 wires would the heater wire go strait to a 12v supply. The thing is tho, even if the engine has been running for 2hrs it is still running rich so I am wondering if it is even the lamba.
I see what you are saying about only running from one bank and thats why I dont really want to do it but Id rather take that risk than the engine running rich.
can the ej22 be pluged into a computer to see whats going on or is the tech to old

IIRC...
One wire - signal (earth through exhaust).
Two wire - signal + earth.
Three wire - signal + heater + shared earth.
Four wire - signal + heater + earth for each.
The thin is tho even if the engine has been running for 2hrs it is still running rich so I am wondering if it is even the lamba.
Mmm. Mebbe not that, then. I think it's multimeter o'clock, checking resistances for sensors and wiring, starting with the coolant temp sensor, in case "the choke's still on".

would the coolant temp sensor throw a code do you know. Im offshore at the moment so its bugging me not being able to test it
Do you know what else apart from that could make it run rich?

Re: ej22 Running a bit rich, any ideas
mines was running a bit rich after instal due to a k&n filter and better breathing, I adjusted the throttle body properly (with a multi meter) and was bang on after that, so much so my mot man dont bother reading the emissions now its allways low!
