heater rotary knob stuck

Post by Hacksawbob »

bloody thing is stuck on full, better than nothing I suppose! I don't want to force it as it's only a little spindle. I've not had a good look at it yet is it easy enough to get too?

Doesn't seem good. Possibly fused inside?

Pretty sure I have a couple of new unused spares.

PM me your address and I will pop one in the post.

Just remove it and open it up.

I love that VW made things components like this actually serviceable. What I suspect has happened is that one of the little metal bars has fallen out and jammed it.

The switch can be completely dismantled, cleaned, fixed and reassembled.

Absolutely right Billy....the increased load from the partially seizing blower as well as the tarnished contacts in the switch, both cause resistance and heat.

Bugger, i wonder if i can measure resistance across the switch or blower and check where it is on the death knell scale? Any thing I can do to extend the life with out removing the dash?
