Hello,
1988 1.6 TD panel van, running standard 14" wheels and 185R14C 8 PR tyres.
My tyres are getting hot on journeys.
The pressures are correct (39 front, 48 rear), and the tracking is right. Is it because I am driving between Bristol and Trowbridge (25 miles each way) at the minute on hot roads, in the hot weather, up hill and down dale? Probably carrying about 300kg of crap in the van.
Cheers,
Steve

Hot tyres are indeed fine. It's when you have 'sausages' of rubber on the shoulders that you know you should probably back off a bit cos you're enjoying yourself too much

I think F1 tyres reach their optimal performance at over 100C. Depends how hot they are getting though. A tyre on a lexus trailer in a layby by the side of a dual carriage way the other week certainly wasn't fine, it was on fire (pulled over and put it out just in time), brakes had been binding I expect.
