Hi all,
I'm running an aaz 1.9 td which has fuel problems. Keeps cutting out.
Current set up is tank - fuel filter - balloon style prime pump - Bosch pump - straight back to tank
The filter that's on only has inlet and outlet. It doesn't have a fuel filter valve and the return line goes straight back to tank. The balloon style prime pump is compressed when engine is running.
My question is - do I need to revert back to original setup and use a filter with the valve in it and do I need the prime pump
I was thinking of getting rid of the prime pump and using a filter like the one that is fitted.
Any thoughts appreciated and a part number for the filter
Thanks
1.9 aaz fuel filter

That could well be your problem - restricting the fuel flow. Why do you have the priming pump? You shouldn't need one. What part no./make is the filter that is on there?

Re: 1.9 aaz fuel filter
Prime pump was on when I got the van and filter is comline eff008.
I am getting rid of prime pump. Just wondered on suitable sized filter which doesn't have the filter valve on top.
Thanks

Re: 1.9 aaz fuel filter
That is the correct one for a JX (presumably that is what yours was originally) up to 1988 after that it was an EFF018. Are you meaning that you want to revert to the spin on type?
Take a look at this site - it may help. http://www.inlinefilters.co.uk/Filters- ... shOn/Round

Re: 1.9 aaz fuel filter
Cheers.
I don't want to revert to spin on type, I'm keeping it in line.
The manual shows a filter with filter valve on top. At some point on my van this has been got rid of and a standard in line filter with only inlet and outlet has been fitted. Just wondered what fuel filter people are using who have the aaz 1.9td conversion.
Thanks

Re: 1.9 aaz fuel filter
Does the engine need a thermo valve.
I have the same filter without the thermo valve, my return just goes straight back to tank.
If I don't have the thermo valve atleast it can't break in the future
Thankyou

Re: 1.9 aaz fuel filter
It doesn't need the valve...it's purpose is to stop fuel waxing in cold weather....not a massive issue these days and the engine in the back helps somewhat anyway...I use the early two fitting filter on my AAZ van and my tdi truck...like you say, less to go wrong!
Re: 1.9 aaz fuel filter
Thanks gents.
I'm going to get the filter without the valve tomorrow.
Just to confirm.... I don't need the balloon style prime pump at all and the engine is self priming?
Cheers.
