Central locking debug - not OEM

Post by syncropatrick »

Hi, after 5 years of central locking not being great, I found time today to look at it. The drivers cab lock/actuator does not control the others, while the passengers cab side does. I remade crimp connections in doors and swapped actuators over, still no joy - fault still at drivers side. I guess I've got a broken cable somewhere.

Did some research and it appears its not an OEM system. Can anyone identify what make these are and what the 5 wires do?

That looks like a pretty standard 5-wire aftermarket door lock actuator.
2 of the wires (most probably the 2 thicker wires) are used to cause the actuator to lock/unlock - 12v on one wire and ground on the other will unlock it; swap the 12v and ground over and it locks.
The other 3 wires are connected to a switch in the actuator that is set by the position of the actuator - one wire should be grounded (probably the black wire?) then when the actuator is locked the switch will connect one of the other wires to that black ground; move the actuator to unlock and other wire will connect to the black ground.
This way the central locking control box knows when you manually move the lock and can then command the other locks to do the same.
Hope that all makes sense.
(If not - google '5-wire door lock actuator' and there should be a bunch of info)

Thanks both. I think I'm on the right track now.
