Hello, I'm considering a sterling B2B charger for my van to charge leisure battery. I can't seem to work out wiring related to the on board EHU charger and also a solar panel. Do I connect charger and solar panel controller to starter battery and the sterling then charges leisure battery from there or connect solar and EHU direct to leisure battery as is now. (Currently have original Holdsworth split charge system)
I have had a search but can't find the detail.
Campervanculture looks a good deal for the Sterling. Did look at the Ctek (combines a mppt controller) but still leaning towards the Sterling.
cheers

Hi
Does your solar controller do the leisure battery and starter battery? I just had Huw Matthews fit a solar set up to my van and he wired both starter and leisure points from the solar control box directly to the leisure batteries as everting runs through those and I dont need the starter topping up. I added solar to try out because we run compressor fridges and they can be a bit power hungry and we are going to be living in our vans for two months while in North Africa in 4 weeks. If you have a gas fridge a Sterling is more than enough.
If you are thinking of buying from CampervanCulture.com give Alan an email at al@campervanculture.com and we give a free full assessment of your requirements and what unit will suite you best as well as any other questions you have.
I hope this helps,
Jed

Re: Sterling B2B wiring
Hi Jed,
I'll email as suggested. Currently the solar panel is a fold out 80w unit with a built in controller which I just crocodile clip to the leisure battery. I wanted to use a mppt controller hard wired to the system and then make upa socket to connect the solar panel. I was thinking of the sterling to get a more efficient charging set up for the leisure battery. I have a ctek charger installed and connected through existing wiring to Leisure battery for EHU. I am in a similar situation with a waeco cr65 fridge. Only other draw is some led lights and 12v sockets.
thanks for reply

Re: Sterling B2B wiring
I have the B2B sterling charger... The way to get the most out of the sterling and mains charger is to have the mains charger connected to the starter battery. The sterling will recognise this charge and then use it to charge the leisure batteries.(this is how mine is set up and it works great) As for solar.. i dont have that yet. But i'd probably connect it just to the leisure batteries. Al at C/culture would know best though

Re: Sterling B2B wiring
It is a funny old game from what the book says and how all these things actually work.
We have tried them all and we are pretty much there on how they all actually work together or not, especially with solar as we all ready know Sterling Power works.
