Wiring a mess and coolant temperature sensor

Post by keytouch »

So whoever had the van before me decided to fit towbar electrics and made a right mess of all the wiringf with big connectors just stuffed into the black box

The connectors, though bulky all seem OK and no shorts or loose connections appear to be there

Power for reversing light feeds of a black wire from main loom bunch, through reversing light switch, to big fuse holder and then on to reversing lights.
The black wire that the power feed comes off appears to be going to the underneath of the glow plug relay.
I'm guessing this is not normal?

Now onto the reason I was looking at the wiring, whilst in the midst of my 1Y engine upgrade from a CS, I needed to work out what went where. I had labelled things up prior to disconnecting but my wiring seems drastically different to anything else described on here
Image
This is what appears to be happening-
Red/Yellow to tempetrature sensor by coolant hose on end of head
Green/Black to oil pressure switch on end of head
Blue/White to oil cooler pressure switch
Black to fuel cut off solenoid
Thick red to glow plugs

Now my main confusion is that there were 2 temperature sensors on the CS engine but only the one was connected, the one on the end of the head. There was no wire to the sensor on the flange between injectors 3 & 4.
Is just one wire/connection normal?
Also, does it matter which oil temperature sensor is used as they are both rated the same and are only about 3 inches away from each other.

I don’t think so the one wire connection is normal because for the working of the temperature sensor we need three wires: supply, ground and the output of the temperature sensor and also if the oil sensors have the same ratings then they are same and they are at the distance of 3 inches to measure different level of oil.
