HUDL consumption

Post by CovKid »

Not had much luck finding out, but I've decided to dump the laptop when camping and use the HUDL only next year. I'm curious to know what it draws whilst charging. I imagine not a lot!

I did try a laptop last year but it wasn't great on an inverter with endless 'bleeping' from the inverter after less than 30 mins. Useless to bne honest. Anyway, the screen on the HUDL is plenty big enough for me and tethered to my phone, should make for a better solution - has TV etc via available apps. I know some folk have TVs but it just seems like a power drain to me - same as running the stereo. As gadgets get smaller and rechargeable batteries more efficient, I wonder if a leisure battery is really worth it any more and perhaps I'd do better to just swap it out for a starter battery (more useful during winter months)...

HUDL.....TELESCOPE perhaps? :D What the blithering heck lol..

Still reckon (despite also owning a Tab) that a Netbook is best...one of the 6 cell versions with 8 - 9 hour battery life.
Mines one of the later ATOM Dual Cores running W7 starter with 2GB of DDR3......so isn't that bad performance wise.

Don't know about the every little helps , but my iPad draws just 900mh when fully discharged , for the first hour then drops to 500mh but it lasts over 40 hours on a charge not tethered , and over 25 hours tethered by wifi more if tethered by Bluetooth.
The phone however needs a charger up its ar$E if tethering for any amount of time on wifi !

Don't bother with a tv anymore , digital terrestrial is pointless mostly and a sat dish takes up too much room....

I must admit that I may ditch the tv. It's useful when we have no 3G signal and that's why it's still in the van.

I'm going to load up the hudls 32gb sd card with kids films and then I may get a lookin with the iPad :)

I have a netbook too, which is better for communications and general useability but the HUDL has a nice bright screen and great for films/tv without any real battery drain. Its claimed that on a full charge the HUDL will play video solid for up to 9 hours which is great when compared to some of the alternatives. Cheers for your thoughts. :D

If we have no 3G ( only in Scotland so far) we just watch the recorded stuff on the iPlayer that lasts 30 days from record date.....we just stored spme up before we leave mostly for jack
